Manta Resurrection a écrit : dim. 01 févr., 2015 13:43Don't worry,if the Monza's not ready to run at Les Écuyers, you can come with the Carlton ;)

The Carlton is not a good track car too big, too heavy and too much power. I tracked it once before and it cost me a set of brakes and tyres and a fair bit of fuel so best part of £1,300. I don't have the funds to do that again much as I'd like to do another - I also have a rule "never trackday something that you aren't prepared to walk away from if you make a mistake"

I can understand, Ian.

It was just a suggestion ;)

I did want to get it to Croix as a spectator last year (seemed a good plan at the time) but I missed my deadline to get it back on the road after several years of being unused - I missed the deadline by a mile and only just managed to get it "finished" for the Le Mans Classic Last year MOT day before we left and I was still bolting/fixing things back onto the car when at Le Mans.

It seems to me you're always acting in emergency. :muah:

Some kind of positive stress, I guess. :bien:

Is it possible to get an MOT with an unfinished car? :ref:

Funny we were talking in a car club meeting the other week and it was decided that I work best when I'm working to a deadline - with no deadline I don't focus and not a lot gets done

Err yes - The MOT is a really a safety check valid for a year but only really evidence that on one day the car passes.

Some examples

Rear seat belts - if there are rear seats then from 1986 seat belts must be fitted and must be in good order or it's MOT fail, if you remove the seat belts and leave the seat - Fail. If you remove the belts and the seats - Pass.

Additional third brake lights - if fitted must work or Fail- if the third brake light is removed - Pass

Windscreen wipers and washer - must work or fail, remove the windscreen and you no longer need wipers or washers - Pass (not nice to drive but legal)

Corrosion (rust) on body - if sharp edge that could injure someone even if it's not within a distance of suspension or seatbelt mounts - Fail

If the corrosion is covered by tape (not in distance of suspension or seatbelt mounts) and is no longer Sharp - Pass

Funny things MOT's in the UK - lots of things can be "advice" but not "fail"

Wow, that's really incredible!

Pass with a missing windscreen!!

A few month ago, I was close to buy an NG TC V8... typical English kit car, isn't it?

This car had an MOT on which the engine's number didn't even fit with what was described on the V5.

I didn't buy it... :muah:

Good move - matching numbers are important

OK tonight's progress

Finished of cutting the back end off (left a little chassis rail just in case I need it)

Apologies for the rubbish picture quality - garage camera batteries died and my mobile phone camera isn't quality

Image

Added the first extra brace

Image

The other side almost ready to do but I ran out of cutting and grinding time

I think what I need to do next is go visit the Commodore and take some dimensions so I know where I need to take some more metal off

Don't worry about the quality of your pics, they're ok for us :bien:

Is the body of the Monza a all-in-one part?
How heavy is it ?
How long does it take you to remove / put it on?

Best guess I've removed between 125 and 150 kgs - maybe another 50 to 100 kgs to go :))

OK a big clue

Take one Monza where every panel has multiple dents and damage and rotten sills

Remove bodywork and scuttle but leave front inner wings, floor, engine gearbox, suspension and running gear all tied together with a cage already welded at 8 points.

Next take one Commodore B with fairly good body (age considered) where already replaced Inner, middle and outer sills as well as some other stuff but with some floor and chassis rail issues (I hate welding upside down)

Image

Remove engine, gearbox, rear axle and suspension. floor, inner wings cross member and front suspension, firewall up to scuttle level

Well it seems like a plan for me - when it's done I'll light a big cigar (I'll ask Eric for one)
